So this is Gracie’s Easter dress.
In my mind it seemed like a normal choice for Easter….the baby chick yellow with the white and the chocolate bunny brown…but seeing everyone else’s pink and pastel dresses I understand that I’m crazy…again.
Oh well. I like it. Sure it’s a little vintage cigarette girlish but I like it.
Plus it was kind of an exciting project for me to work on.
It is the first outfit I’ve completed where I drafted the pattern only from measurements—no tracing a T-shirt, Frankensteining together several different patterns, taking another garment apart, or modifying an existing pattern. (All worthy ways to concoct a garment—and that I have done—and will do again— multiple times.)
But this time it was just me, a measuring tape, and some brown paper—and it worked!
I know, I know it’s not revolutionary or a complicated design. But it’s all mine. Just mine and for me it’s pretty exciting.
And since I was going with the “just mine” theme and chose a dress style that I love paired with random fabrics I decided to make yet another bird fascinator to go along with the ensemble.
I love this one with the little brown bird. And Grace thinks that it is hilarious that she is walking around with a bird “sitting” on her head.
Unfortunately the day we took photos Grace was interested in practically everything other than taking pictures—especially the sticks and the dirt. However, I can’t say that I blame her. I’d much rather play in the dirt than get my pictures taken as well.
But after I told her there was a chance for a chocolate cookie if she would let me take just one photo she was all smiles. (Thank you chocolate cookies.)
Ummm…so that’s it.
I’m happy, Grace is happy and chocolate cookies are delicious.
Have a super Wednesday.

I love it. Great job drafting the pattern from scratch, that’s something I’d like to do more of.

Oh that is an adorable dress and the hat is hilarious and gorgeous. Well done on your accomplishment to draught your own pattern. I would be as happy as you if I did that, which I’d love to do but probably wouldn’t be able to.
And regarding the photo shoot, it turned out beautiful again. I am lucky to have a nearly 4 year old who is a great sport to model for me when I make something new for her and she has even got my 10 year old wanting in on the action.
I just took some pics of my four year old today, modelling my lastest creation. With the same dress already cut out for my 10 year old (in different fabric) she is already choosing where she wants to go for her photo shoot!

I love love love everything about her Easter outfit! I am going to finally make my daughter’s Easter dress today. Seeing your amazing colors makes me want to rethink her dress. I would love to learn how to make patterns from measurements. I am at the point of tracing current clothing.

gorgeous! I love that you didn’t use pastels, I just wish my little lady would go for something that isn’t her FAV colors of pink and purple lol

I think I’d love the dress based on the name alone, but it looks fabulous, too! I can’t get over that bird fascinator – definitely need to make one of those. Good job drafting the pattern yourself – that’s a huge accomplishment!!

This is beautiful! I prefer the bold colours to pastels any day. And congrats on completing a garment from scratch…you are so brave!

She and the dress are adorable! I love the fascinator. My girls would get a kick out of that too. And my son would probably be jealous.

How do you get the skirts to fluff out so much? I love the movement and the fit on top is perfect.

This dress is absolutely FABULOUS!!! I love your color choice. The yellow and chocolate brown are perfect for a spring time dress. I made dresses for my twin grand-daughters in pink and lavendar — man I wish I had gone with yellow instead after seeing this wonderfuld dress. And kudos to you for drafting up something on your own – wish I was that brave!!! Thanks for all the inspiration you share on your blog, this is one of my favorite blogs to follow.

I love the colors you chose! Everyone does pastel so it’s fun to see a pop of something different. The outfit looks so grown up, yet it works really well for your little girl.

I love this dress! I wish I could make something as beautiful for my daughter. Any chance in a pattern for the rest of us? And what does she have under the skirt? I love the fluffiness! 🙂
