Recently I’ve been kind of a grinch about decorating for holidays but I promised myself that I would do some fun things for the kids for Easter. So the other day Grace and I worked together (or I should say over the course of several days we worked together—everything takes longer with a 3 year old helping) we made some bunny buddies to play with.
We made a buddy for each person in the family.
Here’s how we did it.First we made a simple pattern. It only takes a minute.
(If you want to make one just follow these 3 steps.)
(If you want to make one just follow these 3 steps.)
Now on to the sewing part—-which is simple as well.
You’ll need to start by cutting out your pattern and then use it to cut out two pieces of flannel for each bunny that you plan to make.
Next you will need to….
Now….
I used one of our chopsticks to help me do this but anything long and pointy will work—like a crochet hook or the blunt end of a skewer.
Now you are ready to…
When you are filling your bunny don’t be skimpy with the stuffing (for which I used polyester fiberfil) pack it nice and tight. I used the chopstick to help me with this step as well.
Next …
Ummmm….Just for the record, I didn’t follow the circle bottom I made—with a squirmy 3 year old on my lap “helping” it wasn’t happening—I ended up just folding the bottom under and made it straight to save time…but you don’t have to be lame like me.
After you stitch up the bottom…
I used some grey embroidery floss for the eyes and then tacked on some ribbon in the middle and finished by tying the bow over the top of where I tacked it on.
Finally you just…
Maybe you could tack them on…but I don’t know. Grace was going crazy to play with her “buddies” and so out came the glue gun…because the glue gun can solve pretty much any crafty problem that can come up.
And now Grace has her bunny buddies to play with—except for that pink one on the end. That one is Ruth’s which is why it has no tail or bow for her to chew off. (And also why it is already chewy mangled in the picture.)

Oh—And about the $5 Friday-ness of this project. It didn’t cost me anything. I had all the stuff here. The flannel came from left over scraps of a baby blanket, the ribbon and thread I just had on hand, and the fiberfil was left over from another project as well. Sweet.

What a fun craft idea. I will have to give this a go. If you would like another quick and easy Easter craft to do with your 3 year old try fingerprint chicks. I posted a piece on this on my blog http://therewasacrookedhouse.wordpress.com/2012/03/26/kids-easter-craft-fingerprint-chicks/
