Ok everyone. I am so late. I was out of town for a few days and wanted to get this up before I left. But there were some crazy make-it-work moments during the process of sewing this coat, and it just didn’t happen. I did, however, finally finish it up this weekend and am ready to show you all my outerwear project from last week’s Project Run & Play theme.
So, I give you…..
This coat is a pattern remix from a 1960’s pattern (that I, of course, forgot to take a picture of–it’s been a crazy week) and some awesome navy vintage buttons as the closures.
I love that the coat only buttons at the top and gives a peek-a-boo to the dress underneath.
I did want to add a bit of visual interest to the coat so I added some machine-embroidered zig zags to the collar and pockets. The fact that the corner looks weird still irks me, and I might take it out and redo it, but I am not sure how to get a great zig (or zag) to make that corner perfectly. Any suggestions?
And underneath the dress is a simple A-line shape, with an inverted pleat and an invisible zipper in the back, that will be perfect for Spring.
And while the 1 year old in our house yelled “Big Bird” when he saw his sister in the coat….I am pretty much loving it. I wish I were 6 and could get away with it.
And so now I am caught up…..except for the fact that I have not even started a special occasion outfit….or done anything else on my sewing to-do list, or my house list for that matter. But there is always today, or tomorrow, right?
Have a great Monday everyone!

Oh how fun and cheery! I’m not sure what to do about the collar; maybe handstitch it just on the collar??

This jacket is adorable! I love that it reminds me of the children’s book Madeline, the little girls I. That story had exquisite yellow coats as well!

Love this little coat, will have to make one for my little one. What about using ric-rac on the collar instead of the zig-zag it might be a bit more forgiving in the corners 🙂
