I am making up the 98 cents today. These placemats cost $4 and look like they cost a lot more.

I used these placemats from the dollar store that I walked by several times and then finally went back to pick them up. They really don’t look “dollar store” in real life. The fabric has almost a raw silk/ shantung look that is prettier in real life than the pictures. And the oatmeal color is a pretty color with the white holly leaves. My dollar store (Dollar Tree) had kind of a creamy white too…if that sparks an idea for you.
I added some leftover leaves from the Christmas Tree skirt project. I did embroider some veins on the leaves to give them a bit more dimension. I also used fabric glue on these instead of hot glue (you can see a bit of it in the picture) so I could give them away and someone could easily wash them. (Although I wouldn’t suggest drying them in the dryer…)
And you are done!
These sparked the question, “Who’s coming to dinner?” at our house. “No one. Just a blog picture (in the 4 o’ clock darkness that we know as winter–the ISO in pretty high in these pictures…but you can still tell it’s pretty dark.)”
“Ok.”
Can you tell they are all used to my madness by now?

Love it! The white holly is just the right touch.
and I have the same “madness” here. My kids are always saying, “Oh, that must be for THE BLOG” 🙂

Those are really pretty- I think they look very Pottery Barn 🙂

ha ha…sounds like madness at our house. 🙂 I wonder if one day our kids or husbands will write a book about how weird life was with a blogger mommy. Beautiful place mats. Isn’t it crazy that it gets dark so soon? It didn’t bother me too much before, but now that it affects my pictures it drives me nuts!
