Today I have a Vintage Halloween Canvas project to share with all of you, that costs less than $5. And it’s not even Friday yet! Even better.
The inspiration for this project came from Sarah’s blog that I pinned a while back. Who knew you could print on tissue paper and it takes the texture of canvas? Amazing. You can find the tutorial HERE.
I got my canvas at Hobby Lobby when they were on sale a couple of weeks ago. The 8×10 canvas turned out to cost $1.75 on sale and then I spent $1 on a pack of white tissue paper. I printed the image off my computer and got it HERE. There are tons of free vintage images to choose from.
I made the picture black and white, resized it in photshop, and then printed it on an 8 1/2 by 11 piece of paper.
I followed her tutorial exactly but hopefully can offer one piece of advice. You really want the lightest coat of mod podge available. The wetter the canvas is, the tissue paper can rip much more easily. And if it does, just try to push it back down and spread it out (can you tell I did?). Also, tapping the tissue paper down instead of rubbing helps too.
I also learned from a friend who I shared the link with, if you do rip the picture too badly, peel the tissue paper off, then wash the canvas with a wet paper towel and let it dry. You can then start over. So, no mess ups. You can reprint the image and reuse the canvas.
Thanks Sarah for your great tutorial! I need a little vintage halloween on my bookshelves. And maybe you do too…..

I absolutely love this but I’m just a bit worried about messing up my printer. Did the tissue/paper combo just sail through?

I have an inkjet and I taped it down to the cardstock pretty smoothly. In my printer, it worked very well.
