I originally bought these two fabrics to make a tote bag out of. But, as I was looking at my pile of fabrics…I thought how cute they would look together as a skirt. And since it is Elsie Marley’s sew kids’ clothes week, a skirt it became. In a naptime.
Day 1—done. Whew!
(I am hoping I can do the whole week–I’ll let you know.)
I made this skirt the same way that I made the Vintage Dishtowel Skirt. The tutorial is HERE. The only difference is that instead of the vintage dishtowel I added two gathered layers of the different fabrics (one longer than the other). I also added some tiny bias tape around the bottom of the top fabric layer.
If I would have had some orange piping I would have added it in between the waistband and the gathered layers, but I didn’t have any orange, so I left it out. But next time….it’s going in!
Are you doing KCWC? If so, what are you sewing?
(Tomorrow I am cutting out a dress that has been floating
around in my mind a while….show you soon.)

what a cute skirt – perfect fall colors. I’m part of the kcwc – made a skirt and a thick pair of leggings so far – and cut out fabric for a vest, a dress and a hoodie – and will present all of the tutorials during my 30 days of tutorials in November (wow – long answer…)

Very cute! I’m not doing the KCWC. Right now, I’m mired in making two matching pumpkin costumes. The three-year-old requested to be a “nice pumpkin, not a scary pumpkin, with big teeth and fangs.” And she swears that her baby sister has to match. So far, I’ve taken two inches out of a size 1/2 for the baby and started cutting out… ‘cept I’m going to have to run to the fabric store because I ran out of orange broadcloth!
