This week the challenge was to upcycle and thrift. Which you all know how much we love! Although finding enough fabric for both outfits proved to be a challenge.
The inspiration for our outfits came from a Vintage Idol– Miss Audrey. Who was (and still is) a fashion icon in her own right.
So, we made our girls into modern Audreys….and boy did we have fun during this photo shoot. (Sorry there really is a picture explosion coming….)
We decided to do an urban photo shoot this time and boy was it an experience! Who knew the girls would be so enthralled with the city, and have so much fun. Trust us, all of our photo shoots are NOT like this…we usually have to bribe somewhere in there, but this time. Nope. The trains, buses, traffic lights beeping were all really exciting. (I think it just means that we all need to get out more:)
So, here is “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”
The fabric from these outfits came from a few different sources. The vintage wool came from an estate sale score (for $.50) and has the tiny moth holes to prove its age…although we think it just gives the capes some extra charm.
The black fabric was originally going to be from two floor-length bridesmaids skirts that Liz has been keeping. But when we pulled them out and realized that they were cut on the bias…we immediately knew that they weren’t going to work. So, Liz found an old black cotton twin sheet that was soft and perfect for our fitted looks. The white shirt came from a women’s shirt that was opened, cut apart and resewn into a girl’s shirt.
The other part of this challenge that we decided to do was to make fitted outfits under the capes, which isn’t quite the norm for children’s clothes. And so Grace has a fitted sheath dress with her flowy cape, and Hannah has a pair of cigarette pants (you’ll have to go to Project Run and Play to read about my Project Runway judges’ voices that made me resew those pants a number of times to get a good fit) , and her fitted white square-neck blouse.
Their last accessory was birdcages that were made from the extra wool, some leftover craft feathers, tulle and some kitchen trivets to help them keep their rounded shape.
This really was a fun challenge for us….even though our “model fittings” were more like chasing melting ice cubes….which made for an interesting week!
Ok, it’s your turn. Go HERE to vote!!!!

Please share how to make those adorable capes!
LOVE.
Your girls look gorgeous! They are perfect little Audrey look-alikes, and it’s clear they love their outfits! Hoping you win so we get a tutorial for the cape!
This might be your best work to date. The girls are naturally beautiful and the chic outfits just emphasize it.
Freaking adorable. Those hats are to DIE for!
I can’t even stand this! Adorable! I have a baby Eleanor who NEEDS these outfits! Thank you!!!!
So adorable! I love the capes and of course the Audrey style. and I can relate to the fittings! I often can’t get one until it’s time to wear the dress. It’s a nail bitere fingers crossed kind of thing!
These are absolutely amazing…and your models are incredible! I wanted to change my girls halloween costume to this but she is obsessed with “Mamu” aka Shamu so my baby girl will be a whale this year. I am pretty sure when she looks back on the photos she will wish she choose Audrey but it’s her choice. Amazing job.
