I think that these beauties may be one of my most favorite thrift store finds–EVER. (Ok, I think I may have said that before, but it wasn’t true…these really are my favorites.)
Here’s the background on them. Liz and I were at our favorite Savers. And Liz found what we thought were these amazing patterns for these 1960’s embroidery kits…..and we were excited. And then we turned them over. And realized….that THEY. WERE. DONE.
The stitching is impeccable and all four are even basted and pinned to cardboard so they were ready to frame. And Liz, being the darling that she is (she really is) let me buy them to put them into Isaac’s nursery. (A gesture that makes me love her even more.) And I did (I was selfish, I admit it)….AND I LOVE THEM.
But, Isaac is a year old this week and they were still in the packaging. Shameful…. I have walked by them a million times and wanted to frame them…but I just haven’t done it. Don’t get me wrong I have enjoyed them in their packaging, but it was time to do something about them.
So, I hiked everyone to IKEA yesterday, bought some $5 frames that were 8x 10’s and matted to 5×7’s and gave them their new home.
(Please excuse the crookedness…they are hanging on level push pins…or should I say dangling….I am trying to decide if I want them all in a row or in a square. I promise that they won’t be crooked for long….)
Is it wrong to lust after thrift store finds?
I am starting to get worried that I might have to apply for the next reality show called “Extreme Thrifters.” If only I were extreme and could go everyday….
but in the meantine…..
Happy Thrifting everyone!!!
Those are very cute!! I like them as well!! 🙂
I love these pieces. Personally I like them in a row. I like the way they hang over the edge of the crib on each side.
I think finding a cool thrifted treasure encourages the “extreme thrifters” in us all!!
Thanks for sharing your finds with us!
Wow, what an awesome find! Those are fantastic. Doesn’t it break your heart a little to think of someone spending so much time creating those beautiful embroideries . . . and then ending up at the thrift store? I’ve bought a few crochet blankets from the thrift store that I have no use at all for, but it just made me ache to think of some sweet granny (in my mind, only old ladies crochet. Well, old ladies and me.) making a blanket for a grandchild . . . who dropped it off at Salvation Army. Sad for her . . . but great finds for us 🙂 I love them in his nursery!
Oh my gosh! Those embroidered thingeys are so adorable and you just can’t beat a frame from IKEA!
These are wonderful, Elizabeth! I think they perfect in the nursery…wish I could embroider like that…maybe liZ can teach me??? 😉
Love, Love, Love!
#1. I’m not as nice as you say.
AND
#2. You let me get that pillow case for my slip this week and buy all that sweet sweet checkered polyester.
#3. Those pictures look really cute all framed up. (And Ido think they would look cute in the loft as well.)
Liz,
I will let you buy polyester any day of the week, but only if you make a 9 to 5 Dolly Parton Suit out of it….in maternity!
So. Get. Sewing.
