I have had this in the works for a while now…and it is finally time to share! So….
LET’S DO A SEW ALONG! Ok? OK. Here’s what we will be making…
It is my interpretation of this vintage 1950’s pattern.
* Please note–It is NOT this exact pattern…it is my own interpretation. You will make your own pattern for the size jumper you need using an old, stained tee shirt that you don’t mind cutting up.
Even vintage patterns are still copyrighted.
(The wind was blowing in our pictures…so you are not getting the full effect of the skirt. It is super full and cute.)
I am really excited about it. (And one of the best parts, you are going to sew darts! And you are going to think that they are easy. I promise.)
Allright, here is what you need to get before next Monday.
* An old stained tee shirt that fits very well that you don’t mind cutting up. (Yes, you will be cutting it up. Unless you are a pattern whiz and want to trace one.)
*Fabric–I made a size 5/6 and used about 2 yards. (The skirt is tightly gathered and you need quite a bit of fabric for it.) Guesstimate for your size….you will need approximately 1 yard for the skirt portion.
*Thread that matches your fabric (and a bobbin too!)
*8 buttons (I used fabric covered ones but you could use any matching buttons.)
*Ribbon that matches for the waist. (I used a grosgrain ribbon that was 7/8″)
Ok, you’ve got almost a week to get your supplies!
(And did I mention that I am really excited about this project. Ok, but I really am. It is a perfect project for back to school and I am excited to see all of your vintage-inspired looks! Maybe I can even wrangle up a prize for one of your spectacular jumpers! I will work on it.)
Will you leave a comment if you are in? Thanks. (Hopefully we will have a few of us…)

Elizabeth I so wish I could join you next week but I’m getting ready for a fair on 8/13. You can bet I will be making 3 jumpers I just can’t ‘sew along’ with you all. Can’t wait to see what folks come up with.

I think I’m in….I’m so nervous tho.
What type of fabric do we need? And do we need a seperate fabric for the under shirt?
Falafel and the Bee says
That looks so great! My older daughter would love one of these dresses…I think I can do it, although she is a size 12. yikes. That’s a whole lotta fabric!

Just Jayma–
The undershirt I bought at Old Navy…it is one of their school uniform shirts. As for fabric….really any kind will work. I used a quilting cotton for both of the jumpers I made.
(I wouldn’t start with corduroy, satin or denim if you are a beginner…but I would say anything else should work great!)

If we need a 5/6 would you be willing to share your pattern? That would be super duper of you. 😉

I have a niece starting kindergarten this year, and can’t wear the ‘fun’ clothes we’ve made this summer…this is just the thing to make her an ‘original’ outfit and fit in with the semi-uniform requirements of the school. I’m in!

I’m printing out the Day One instructions Right. Now. I’m in!

I have a lot of sewing projects on my plate right now. 6 weeks until baby BUT school starts next Tues AND I just happen to measure my girls this morning before they left for the week SO…. I may give it a try. 3 yards of fabric and 3 days on the sew along — doable.
