I made these totes for the kid’s teachers this year…and I will let you in on a little secret…..they only cost me a dollar. Really.
I stumbled across these tote bags at Dollar Tree last year and bought 2. And carried them around all summer. They are perfect pool bags, and I even have one in the car for a grocery sack if I need it. Yes, they are not real canvas but man are they sturdy. So, this summer I stocked up. And decided they would be great teacher totes. They are the perfect size for a teacher carrying lots of stuff back and forth from home to school.
I used heat and bond for the flower (which I just freehanded) and then heat and bond on the letter as well. I did use a denim needle in my machine as I was stitching around the flower and the initial. And viola….done.
We filled up our bags with some “giving tree” items that our teachers had on their lists like Kleenex, sanitizing wipes, Sharpies, and a few other goodies and we were set.
And don’t worry, ours were a few days late…so you still have time to run to the Dollar store and grab a couple to make this weekend. I promise that a teacher will be very happy-even with a $1 gift of a sturdy bag with a few practical supplies in it. (I was a teacher…and loved practical.)
Ok….for the news…….
nope, no baby for Liz yet……..(a good and bad thing…..hang in there Liz!)
but click HERE and you’ll find out…….
(Let’s just say we are excited…but also scared out of our pants. REALLY.)

I bought some of the same bags – – I was remarking to the clerk how nice quality they seemed to be – – the manager overhead and chimed in that they were overruns from Kohls — what a deal, for only $1!

How cute! All these back to school gifts are making me wish I were a teacher–I’m getting jealous of all the awesome gifts they’re getting. And good luck to Liz–I was just thinking about her yesterday and wondering if there was any baby news! And good luck in Project Run and Play, too–you two are totally gonna rock it.

I’m many months late on this, and a single teacher… I just wanted to tell you it was so encouraging to come across this post and read how honoring you are of teachers! (That you understand how much teachers tote home and back!!) I work in the inner city, so seeing posts like this are refreshing. 🙂 Thanks!
