I am already thinking back to school. Ha!!! I think because I made most of Hannie’s summer clothes in April and May, that I thought I had better get a jump on some Fall things before it gets too late and school has already started.
Here is a little skirt I made from some leftover projects. Last month for a church activity we did family trees on fabric. (I wish I had thought to take some pictures–everyone’s turned out really cute. Hi girls!!!!) These were the basic idea, but we used random green fabric leaves with some red, pink and orange mixed in. And then sharpies to write family member’s names on each of the leaves.
This tree and the leaves were leftovers…..and you can’t waste fabric…..so it became a “Leafy Treetops skirt.”
If you want to make one, here is what I did. The tree outline is one that I found in google images. The leaves are mostly freehanded (a group of us cut out 1200 for the activity—whew!) and these are some orange ones that we had leftover. I used wonder under to iron the trees and leaves on, and then went and edge-stitched around each of them so they will stay in the wash. (The edges will still all fray a bit with each washing–but I love that look.)
The fabric is some tan linen that I had. It is 60 inches wide so I love how it kind of mimics an A-line skirt when the elastic was put in. If you need to know how to make a simple skirt you can follow any of the beginning steps of the skirt tutorials on the above tab. (I used a simple skirt tube with elastic for all of them:)
Am I totally crazy for starting back to school so early? Probably…..
P.S. I had this post scheduled…and then Liz posts her great post about enjoying the summer and I am already talking fall clothes….ha! So, enjoy the summer!!!! And if you have a free minute….THEN think a couple of fall things…..
