Today we are over at U Create…….
where there is a tutorial to make this little number…..
Go over there and then come back to see these versions….{it’ll make a lot more sense. Go. We’ll still be here when you come back.}
Liz made this denim one that I love…and the button variations at the top? Absolutely darling. Remember when I told you she was the queen of cute embellishments? Now you believe me.
And one more variation….
The Starboard Skirt #2
If you want to make this skirt….you need an additional two side pleats in the front. Add another 8 inches to your skirt front piece after you have done the math measurements, do the inverted pleat like the tutorial, and then add two extra 4 inch side pleats on both sides of that middle pleat. I did mine 5 inches over from the middle inverted pleat. *But different sizes will need the pleats in different places….I say just eyeball it and go for it!
Here is a picture from the front….
See the side pleat where her hand is?
I am actually making one of these Starboard #2 Skirts for myself….out of this red and white stripes.
And two more pictures for good measure…of a couple more Liz made for Grace.
And the possibilities for Fall are endless. You will be sure to see those soon. Really soon, because Liz and I are addicted to making these skirts. Not. Even. Kidding.
Thanks for stopping in today! Have a fanastic weekend!
P.S. We have had some questions on this so….please know that this tutorial is for personal use only (for yourself, your loved ones, and for gifts). If you would like to make and sell these skirts please contact us at simplesimonandco@gmail.com for a license release. Thanks everyone!

Hi from Ukraine! Thank you for your blog and for this skirt post specifically. I can sew a bit, but i’m self-taught;)) so I love the way you describe everything so that even I can do it myself, I just read 4 last posts and found 4 things I was planning to sew. That’s so great I found you! not by chance, I guess! Blessings to you and your 6 kids;)

love love love these skirts. I see some others have also asked about the fabric. I can tell that it is a heavier weight. Can you tell us where you got it?

PLEASE tell us your source for both the yellow chevron fabric and the red/white stripe. Thanks!

Sorry for my slowness….we were gone for a few days.
The fabric sources…the red and white stripes is from Hancock Fabrics and is a home decor print.
And the chevron, also from Hancock, was a remnant and is actually (if I am remembering right?) is an outdoor fabric. The lady told me that it is coated for outdoor use so the fabric said not to wash it….but I did. And it did shrink like cotton. But it was totally fine. Although I think it is sold out:(
I don’t have the fabrics right here to check the labels for designers (it is still packed in a suitcase) but I PROMISE that I will the info to you when I get it unpacked.

So if I were to make this for my little girl who is 21 years old, would I use the same rules?? Divide measurement in half, add 8 inches for inverted pleat?
I see your note here about side pleats but I’m not sure what that is all about.
Thanks!
elizabeth says
Cj,
You can follow the exact same rules for the yellow chevron skirt for any size. (I made myself two fall skirts that I will show soon.)
I made the red skirt differently because I added two additional pleats on the sides of the front inverted pleat. This would add another 4 inches per pleat (8 more inches total).
Hopefully that answers your questions!
do you mind if i knit says
Oh WOW! I can see that you’ve just provided me with my new sewing addiction! This skirt is absolutely fabulous, thank you so much for the pattern, that is very generous of you. I was wondering if you would mind telling us what the zig zag fabric and the stripe fabric for the adult versions of the skirt are, and is it possible to buy them on-line? They are just such stunning fabrics, especially the zigzag one. I feel really, really excited about making this skirt and spreading the word about it! Vanessa xxx
