Currently we are in the process of redoing bedrooms and trying to get all things settled and ready for the baby. This is a wall in Simon’s room (which is almost finished).
I want Simon to really love his room and want it to be a place that is all him. So to start we let him pick the paint colors. Sure, it’s a little loud, but it’s only one wall (although you should see what’s on the others…)
Next, we know that Simon loves to build and invent so we wanted some sort of shelving that we could display his Lego’s, and robots, and older books on. The only problem was we couldn’t find anything that we liked.
Then one day at IKEA we ran across this
It’s a headboard but we thought built in different dimensions it would be perfect shelving. So the next day Jon stopped at Home Depot on the way home, picked up the supplies and by evening he had the shelving unit built and stained.
The next day we cut and painted the actual shelves, which vary in size and can be moved to any location on the unit, and hung the entire thing up in Simon’s room.
It’s perfect. I love it. The shelves have already been rearranged since the photo and different items are on some of the shelves…so like I said, it’s perfect. It can change at anytime to hold any treasures that need to be on display…like the ant farm…and the jar of bolts…and anything else my building, inventing, collecting little guy wants to keep safe.
So thank you IKEA for the awesome idea.

So funny. I was at Ikea today looking for something to display my sons Legos, came across this same headboard and thought it would be perfect in different dimensions. I came home empty handed. Would you be willing to share anymore info on this project?

Do you have a list of things your husband got at Home Depot to make this wall shelf? I am not really craftsy and I need a little more help than the average person.
I would greatly appreciate a response to this. Thank you in advance.
