I think that we need an acronym for Another Vintage Dress, ’cause it seems like that is the title of half my posts. But AVD just sounds like some very bad disease (it probaby is and I don’t even know it) so we’ll just go with Another Vintage Dress.
Anyway,
I took this 1972 pattern:
and made this dress…..
with this cute yolk and sleeves.
I used some apples and pears fabric from the calico wall at Joann’s when they were 30% off a month or so ago. I was loving the look of this updated apples and pears, especially because it’s mustard and turquoise. My favorite sewing colors as of late.
I also added about 2 inches to the hemline (did you see the length on that pattern?) as to not have any tushies hanging out. Did our unders hang out in the 1970’s? Maybe we had frilly ones so we didn’t care. I was a toddler….ahem….preschooler in the late 70’s, so I don’t quite know.
After which my darling wanted to “read” the pattern and then declared that she needed the exact white flats that the girl in the green dress on the cover was wearing.
Sorry, Hannie but those shoes stayed in the 70’s I am pretty sure. Although they are cute.
P.S. Remember when I said that I wan’t making any more skirts for awhile….well, awhile only lasted a week. Another vintage skirt tutorial is coming on Wednesday. And I will give you a hint…..get a vintage dishtowel ready.

I think the shortness was a 70’s thing. I bought a book of childrens patterns (75cents)at a book sale and all the dresses barley cover the butt. love your fabric choice!

gorgeous…as always…not sure what I love more, the dress or the fabric! I think short dresses are cute, but only on the younger kids, with bloomers 🙂

I love vintage patterns. I inherited some from my grandmother when she passed away. After reading your post. I am looking forward to making them with some fun fabric.

Ill bet you could get her a pair at Walmart perhaps? or Payless? They have flats in every color now.
Love the dress, and the fabric! So so cute!

Um, the lace tights that your daughter is wearing, did you make those? I always wonder if you should use elastic thread in the bobbin or on top or both when sewing ruffles to stretchy things. Any idea???
Thanks
