Because I failed miserably in my previous attempt to live according to the rules of the 4th facet in becoming an ideal homemaker I am trying it again. I’m taking it slowly. And I’m working it out.
This week I’ve been working on the 1st of 8 points in Ms. Hoole’s “A Place For Everything” homemaking instructions which is: “LET EACH ROOM FULFILL IT’S FUNCTION”.
It is a point that is simple and self explanatory but for me has been a lot of work. You see, recently places in my home have ceased to fulfill their function. Like my front room, for example. My front room had become a catch-all. Housing piles of incoming and outgoing items—a pile to donate, a pile to return to elizabeth, a pile to return to my mom, a pile to go to art class, etc. etc. etc.
But this week it has been cleared out and returned to the purpose I created it for—a place to read with the kids. The piles are gone and all that is left is the perfect environment for reading.
I have more work to do. More rooms to conquer. But I’m doing it and the end of the week each room should be in condition to fulfill it’s purpose. And then, one of these days, I to will be found smartly dressed and reading the newspaper in my spotlessly clean family room. Or at least completely dressed, watching tv, in a mostly clean family room.
I can dream can’t I?
