I made these place mats earlier this week for a Mother’s Day gift for my grandmother-in-law.
They are super simple and super cheap. I got all the supplies at the Dollar Tree (our local dollar store). Here’s the supply list:
#1. 2 colored burlap place mats
#2. 1 large oatmeal colored doily
#3. 1 pack of 2 small oatmeal colored doillies
And since everything costs $1 your total will come to $4 and change. Nice.
Now to put them together:
#1. Cut the large doily in half.
#2. Arrange 1 large and 1 small doily on each mat in a way that makes you happy.
#3. Tack down doily by hand OR with your sewing machine (which is what I did).
#4. Get a soda. You’re done.
Easy.

These turned out GREAT. I love that price tag. I love all the stuff doilies are appearing on lately. I bought a large doily and a small doily at a flea market a couple of weeks ago and I want to tack it to t-shirts for my daughter and me. How did you sew it with your sewing machine? I thought it would be to hard to do with a sewing machine and had planned to do it by hand. Thanks for sharing your great project!

Hey Amy
It was so stinking easy. I was shocked. I just put oatmeal colored thread in my machine and then slid the placemat and doily under the presser foot. Then slowly along the doily where the floss/thread/whatever-it-is was the thickest I stitched. And it totally worked and held strong and you can’t really even see the stitches.
The idea of putting doilies on shirts sounds super cute! Good Luck! Let me know how it worls.

Did your placemats fade onto the doilies when washed?
