With the end of the winter dull drums upon us I’ve got the crafting bug something fierce. And while I wish it was inspiring me to whip up something wonderful it is expressing itself through silly projects like the Penguin Encounter.
All you need are old bottles and socks, some googlie eyes, Styrofoam balls, and some black spray paint and instantly you’ve got penguins hanging out on your porch.
I actually saw this in Disney’s Family Fun magazine and my 5 year old and I have had so much fun trying it. It is such a great idea. I always feel like my house looks so boring after the Christmas decorations are gone and this was a good way to liven up the front yard—and to use up all the bottles we received in the form of neighbor gifts during the holidays! Every few days we add another penguin or two and it’s been funny watching the herd grow.
The cute mom in the magazine had like 100 penguins in her yard. We can’t compete but are enjoying them none the less. I am thinking that this will become a January tradition.
