I am down for a bit recovering from surgery, and on the couch, so I thought that I would post an older project that I haven’t gotten around to yet….
Behold–the sweater set redo.
I had a really nice cashmere sweater set that my mom had given me for Christmas quite a few years ago. But, I haven’t worn it for awhile because it was just looking a bit dated. So, I cut up it (gasp…) and went for it.
Here’s what I did…
I didn’t get a picture of the sweater before so imagine the before.
I started by taking the inside sweater and chopping off 4 strips off the bottom. I think I did 3 inches but I can’t quite remember so just chop off the size ruffle that you want.
Then I took the strips (they are still in a loop) and cut open one end to start ruffling. One trick that I use to ruffle is to put my stitch to the highest it will go. On my machine it’s a 5.
Then turn the tension knob to the highest number (just remember highest-highest). On my machine it’s a 9.
Then feed through your strips and they ruffle themselves! (I love this trick.)
Then I cut off the buttons and pinned the ruffles onto the front of the cardigan. I then switched back the tension and stitch length (just a reminder because I always forget) and sewed all four ruffles to the front of the sweater.
And viola….now I just need to get better, and off the couch to be able to wear it.
