On Monday we started our Quilt Block for the Month of November and today we are going to finish the String Block Mini Quilt. Mini Quilts are a great way to try new quilt blocks without a lot of commitment and they are becoming quite popular for that reason. I think I love them best because you really can make a quilt in an afternoon.
If you need the string quilt block tutorial…click HERE to make the four quilt blocks…and then today we will finish up our mini quilt.
After you have your four string quilt blocks, here’s how you are going to finish your mini quilt.
String Quilt Block—Making the Mini Quilt
Step 1: Layout your 4 string quilt blocks out in the shape you want them. Then, using a 1/4″ seam allowance sew the first row of blocks together. Then stitch the second row together.
Step 2: Stitch rows 1 and 2 together to form your mini quilt. PRESS all seams open. (This can be tricky but just go slow to make sure all your seams are open.)
Step 3: Add your backing to your mini quilt. You can use basting spray or quilting pins to hold your quilt top and backing together. (I love basting spray for smaller quilts!)
Step 4: Quilt your mini quilt with your walking foot. I quilted six or seven squares in different sections of the mini quilt.
Step 5: Bind your quilt. See THIS BINDING tutorial if you need a tutorial.

I love this project….I am working on my first ever quilt and it’s similar to this strip technique.
