One Spring during my college years I lived in Portugal and we had the most glorious lemon tree out our front door. Our hosts told us we could pick as many as we would like…and little did they know, we girls could drink a lot of freshly made lemonade. I didn’t know about simple syrup back them so we just used straight sugar…and we would always have a ring of sugar around the bottom of our glasses, but by golly those were the best glasses of lemonade I have ever had. It was so hot outside and it was so refreshing. And everytime I make this frozen lemonade recipe I am right back to those days of the South of Portugal.
I think it is one of the reasons I love anything with fresh lemon in it today…and frozen lemonade is one of my favorite treats!
Here’s how I make it:
Ingredients
1 cup of fresh lemon juice (4-5 large lemons)
1 cup of simple syrup (equal parts water and sugar)
2 cups cold water
4 cups ice
Blend well in a strong blender on “icecream” mode for 30-45 seconds.
Serve immediately. Makes 4-6 servings.

We love homemade lemonade here too. I have young kids who hate the sound of the blender so I have found that the ice cream maker makes a good frozen drink too. Just a bit more planning but no kids upset by a blender.

Sarah, I have never tried it in an icecream machine…that’s genius!!!! I am going to try it this weekend 😉

Would a food processor work as well?

I have never tried it but as long as it will crush ice , I bet it will work!
